101 Reasons why we love Santiago...

One day I took my parents to the big market Bio Bio. This guy had a couple of donkeys and so I took a photo. After I took a photo he held his hand out like he wanted some money. I gave him some change and then he smiled a big toothless grin and said 'How you doin' baby!?'. Obviously this was the only thing he could say in English because he just kept saying it. hahahah

It really was hilarious. ^_^ Then every time he saw us from then on he would call out and wave. He also was standing outside the cafe where we had lunch calling out. >_< lol

OMG we got tear gassed!!! :O

On September 11th here in Santiago (the anniversary of the day Pinochet seized power back in 1973) there were a lot of protests in the street. So of course Matt wanted to go out and see the action. Reluctantly, after the smoke inhalation fiasco, I agreed to go for a walk through the city.

The police had their scary vehicles sitting around waiting for action, but other than that the streets were very quiet.

Yay... totally recovered from the day's fiasco!

The end of another crazy day living with Matt. *collapses with exhaustion*

Romantic Santiago...

Santiago is such a romantic and beautiful city. It's wonderful to wander the cobblestone streets at dusk, look at paintings in Plaza De Armas and visit what we call 'the castle' on the hill (Cerro Santa Lucia).

Even though Matt had a sore foot he insisted we walk a few suburbs to go and find a romantic little restaurant he had seen last time he was here. Unfortunately the restaurant was closed but we found another warm little cafe to have dinner and hot chocolate. It was lovely.

They have the prettiest roses in he world... )

Sunning ourselves on our tiny little balcony. Really you can't call it a balcony... it's only just big enough to fit my butt.

More sunning... )

Our New Apartment...

After our dramas at the boarding house we found an organisation called Contact Chile (http://www.contactchile.cl) who helped us find a fully furnished apartment that rents by the month (which gives us awesome freedom). The rent is $300,000 pesos a month (AU$150 a week) and it includes furniture, cutlery and crockery etc, electricity and gas and a daily maid service including daily fresh towels, weekly fresh sheets and full apartment cleaning (including the dishes!). It's GREAT!

It's a very new apartment on the 11th floor. I love it so much! It's also been a bonus because the amount we are paying affords us extra help from them... for example Ana from Contact Chile even made my doctors appointment for me. :D

This is our apartment block. Strangely enough I took this photo one day when we were wandering around the city... before we even knew the apartment was for rent. I just thought it looked like an interesting and cool building. Little did I know I'd be living there within the week!
