Today Jarvis somehow managed to take the entire door off one of our kitchen cupboards. o_O

He's becoming such a destructive force in the house these days! lol

He's also been sick the poor little guy. He's got some kind of virus that gave him a fever and a rash but the fever is gone now and he's getting better.

Matt's parents bought him an oil heater for his room to keep it warm at night and it's wonderful! It really helps keep him toasty at night. Before I was having to put up to 4 layers of clothing on him at night! Hopefully it will help him to sleep longer so I don't have to wake up so many times each night. This sickness (particularly when he had the fever) he was waking up every hour at some points in the night. Exhausting!!

He's as cute as ever though, and saying more words by the day. My favourite is still when he says 'no, no, no, no, no!' and shakes his finger. Lately he's also been saying 'bye bye' when he waves sometimes and he even said something that sounded an awful lot like 'thankyou' when I handed him his dummy one day. He also says 'quack quack' whenever he sees his ducky toys which is then followed by his version of a wiggles song where they sing 'quack, quack, quack, quack, quack, quack-a-doodle-doo' his version is more like 'quack, quack, quack, quack docoo docoo' or similar ...no doubt some of you other mothers on here know the song I mean!

He really loves the wiggles. I put his little baby sized couch in the lounge room and he sits there and watches the dvd and then sometimes stands up to have a little dance.

Jarvis is awesome. :D

Jarvis update!

This week Jarvis has started saying 'Oh no!'. He says it a lot around the house but last night when I was watching television a woman said 'Oh no!' and Jarvis repeated it. hahah Cutest thing ever!

So now he says 'Uh oh' and 'Oh no!'. He also tries to give kisses by putting his face forward and going Mmmmmm (he never does the 'uah!' bit or the kissy lips though) haha

He also now thinks it's funny to pull down my tracksuit pants if I'm standing at the sink or my workbench. Thanks Jarvis! lol

*edit* And I was just feeding him breakfast and it occured to him that it would be terribly funny if he opened his mouth to show me his half chewed food (quick oats & banana).

He's becoming such a cheeky little bugger! lol

Lately I've been getting a few repeat orders from the stores I wholesale to... this is so cool because it seems like most of them will make a few purchases a year. Now all I need to do is get more stores on board!

If anyone knows of any stores that might like to stock my jewellery let me know!

Oh and I don't do consignment. I've had a lot of requests for consignment but I just won't do it. It's too much effort to keep track of... there are too many issues to consider (shoplifters/lost product etc) and quite frankly my wholesale prices are cheap enough for stores to just buy the product outright! I just lost most of my mp3 collection. :( :( :(

I had them on an external hard drive and I plugged that into Matt's computer to copy across a few of his mp3s that I didn't have. After copying them I looked on the external hard drive and most of my folders were gone. WTF?!

They were not in the trash or anywhere else. When I plugged the drive back into my computer they were not there either. The weird thing is that when I look at the hard drive properties it still says the same amount of space on the drive is taken up. So it's like they are still there somewhere but I can't access them. Does this mean they are corrupt and gone for ever or are they somehow recoverable?

HELP!!!?

On the positive I do have a lot of the mp3s backed up on another computer but I had saved them all into specific folders (by genres or just similar sounds) and fixed up all the names and stuff... basically it would be hours of work to do that again and I just don't have the time anymore. :(

Burn...

So I burnt my hand on the oven a couple of days ago. It's starting to seem as though I am a disaster in the kitchen, no?

The nail I sliced through a couple of weeks ago is still healing.

Basically I went to get something out of the oven and my hand hit one of the oven bars. It's not the first time this has happened to me but this time I am blaming the fact that Jarvis was in the kitchen and I was trying to make sure he wasn't anywhere near me/the oven at the time so I wasn't paying full attention to myself.

Anyway... at first the burn hurt surprisingly little and was kind of whitish. It wasn't until last night that the burn started hurting. I'm guessing that means it's a rather bad burn.

I am lame. At least we had delicious savoury muffins though. :)

In other news we took full advantage of the council clean-up this week. We put out sooo much junk from under the house. All the good stuff was gone within a day or two. I love that people come and take the good stuff. I probably wouldn't even put half of it out there if it wasn't for the scavengers. I put my old couch out because I knew someone would take it. The cool thing was that one of the scavengers actually asked to see what else we had under the house and then paid us $120 for a couple of pieces of furniture. Believe me they were nothing fancy and certainly not worth much (both were broken). He was a furniture restorer though so he obviously figured they were worth it.

Now to get back to painting those prototypes. I might even finish them today! Before anyone gets too excited they aren't new designs. I have to remake old prototypes because the last factory destroyed them. I know, I know I could use current stock but I am a perfectionist so my prototypes have to be absolutely perfect. Most people can hardly tell the difference but I just have to feel that they are 100% perfect. I am doing a repaint of Cherry Girl, though, because I decided I'd like her face to be a little more pinup girl next doorish. At the moment I think it's more evil minx.

Once these babies are done... and Wintersun is over... and the website is updated (boy does that need to happen) THEN I'll be starting on new designs. XD I can't wait!!

Mini holiday!

So for the last couple of days we have been down the coast. Matt's parents invited us to come and stay with us for a couple of days of their week long holiday. We got to stay in Surfers Paradise at the Chevron Renaissance on the 38th floor and the view was AWESOME!

The view. How much would I love to wake up and see that every morning!? I also love the Q1 building and we've been wanting to check it out for ages now... we just got invited to a party on the 60th floor there in two weeks... SO excited! The views are going to be unbelievable!

This was the view out the bedroom window at night. I left the curtains open so that when I woke up in the night I could see this. It was so cool! :D

We also took Jarvis to the spit to paddle in the still water. I remembered the camera but forgot to put the batteries in it! So we couldn't get any pictures. : ( He had a lovely time though playing in (and eating) the sand and paddling about. There was a man fishing nearby and when he caught a fish that was too small he let it go in the small pools of water so that Jarvis could watch it swimming. :D

My business name was OcularXS (pronounced Ocular Excess because the characters are big eyed). Ocular Excess was the name of an article about big eyes in Japanese Animation that I referenced in an assignment I did in Animation Studies at Queensland College of Art. I got so tired of explaining the pronunciation and spelling to people that I ended up changing it to Kittycat Black in 2005 (after being in business since 2003).

Everything was hand sculpted, hand painted, handmade and took AGES to make... I was selling things for less than they were worth for my time. I was doing the Riverside and Valley markets every weekend for about 6 months or just under. In the end I decided it wasn't worth my time and ended up selling more online and focusing on custom work because it was the only way I could make enough money to get by. Even then I was struggling. And damn... my fringe was too short! lol

Garterbelts & Gasoline Markets 2008

I'm still super glad I changed to the name Kittycat Black. The name Kittycat Black came about because one day I was jokingly trying to convince my flatmate at the time that I was going to change my name. I thought it would be funny to ring up and order a pizza and say the order was for 'Kittycat'. lol Obviously I did not actually change my own name to Kittycat Black but when I reconsidered my business name it came to mind and it was perfect! It's simple and not too hard for people to get right (although I do still have issues with people spelling it with a KittyKat Black. I'm not too worried about that because I own www.kittykatblack.com too.

I have fantastic photos from the amazing Kate O'brien and I'm really happy with the overall look and branding. I've been working with manufacturers and have learnt heaps about that in the past year or so. Despite some people thinking that I'm 'selling out' by moving to mass produced product it is going to allow me the freedom to create an abundance of fantastic new designs where before I was scrambling around just trying to make ends meet so much it was hard to be all that creative. This has been a long process but I can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel. Once I get there you'll be seeing a lot more new designs again... just like the old days. I'm guessing there will be a lot happening in the next couple of years! :)

Markets!

omglia reminded me with her markets post that I haven't posted the photos I have from the markets!

These were from Garterbelts & Gasoline at Mt Tamborine. It was an awesome market and despite being rained out twice and only staying half the day we did fantastically. The next market we went to at the Cleveland showgrounds didn't go so well and I realised the (obvious) importance of going to markets where the crowd actually cares about fashion! So we're still doing Wintersun and Greazefest but that's probably it for this year... which I'm kind of glad about because it means no more early early Sunday mornings! Yay! :)

That weird looking belt thing I'm wearing is actually my money bag. lol See that mannequin head there? Well Jarvis loves it! haha Whenever he sees it on the shelf he laughs and points. lol And I also must add... gosh I love my husband!! ^_^ *gives him a squishy hug for looking so cute*

In other Kittycat Black news I am working on a whole new range of more glamorous high end necklaces to go alongside my regular street wear range. It's very exciting!! It will probably be around 6 months before I'm posting any pictures etc but designs are in the works. I will still be releasing new street wear designs (I have SO many ideas) but I think both ranges will compliment each other beautifully. The new designs will still have a distinctly Kittycat Black look but just be simpler and more sophisticated than any of my previous elaborate designs. They will still be unusual and arty and certainly a little bit dark.

My reason for this new venture stems from my need for jewellery to wear when I dress up and go out. As with my designs in the past I'll be making what I want to wear that doesn't already exist.

Did I say I was excited about the new designs? Oh yeah. hahah I'm EXCITED!!! ^_^
