OMG we got tear gassed!!! :O
On September 11th here in Santiago (the anniversary of the day Pinochet seized power back in 1973) there were a lot of protests in the street. So of course Matt wanted to go out and see the action. Reluctantly, after the smoke inhalation fiasco, I agreed to go for a walk through the city.


The police had their scary vehicles sitting around waiting for action, but other than that the streets were very quiet.




We went for a peaceful wander around.


Took our photo in front of this cool tunnel that goes from one building to another across the street.

THEN not long after... protesters started coming down the street. Here are videos of what followed...

Yes that's right... TEAR GAS!! If you listen carefully to the video right before the tear gas cloud is released you can hear me say 'Sweetie, come on' because I was trying to get Matt not to go in so close. After the tear gas cloud hit him in the face... and I had to help him, as he stumbled blindly through Plaza De Armas to the water fountain to wash his face ...surely he had learnt to LISTEN TO SHARON!!! lol

Then he took my photo as I washed my face. It didn't hit me as hard because I kept a safer distance. When I washed my face, though, the tiny particles from my hands and skin got into my tear ducts and it burned and I couldn't see. After hearing the camera go off, and realising that Matt had taken a photo of me right then, I was ready to turn around and smack him... if only I could have seen him!! lol


After we recovered a little we decided to go for some gelati since our noses, eyes and mouths were a bit burney. Funny that the photo came out looking like impaired vision! haha


Then when we got home we went up on the rooftop.


It was a very clear day!

lol he told me bout the tear gas, i was like 'you went to a riot for fun? riiiiiiight'. sounded typical of mattys insaneness hehe i mean that in a good way btw! lol

and i was like 'i woulda murdered u if u took that pic of me while i was dying from tear gas!'
friggin men, they dont think 99% of the time do they! lol

hahah yes... it is quite typical. He's been talking about the bloody water canons since before we got to Chile. And everytime he mentioned them he got that crazy look in his eyes! haha I knew we would see some riot action while we were here... but I didn't take into account the tear gas! >_<

hahaha God seriously by that stage I was kind of beyond annoyed and it started being funny. Actually mostly it was funny because all morning I'd been telling Matt we should stay home and away from the trouble. Eventually I gave in and went with him and then he got hit the hardest by the tear gas (watching him stumble blindly through they town square was kind of amusing... especially since I was in pain too and it was all his fault!)... so in the end I got to say a big fat "I TOLD YOU SO!" heheh

You guys are just such a dream. :) When my boyfriend moves here from Scotland to practice nursing I hope we're as happy as you seem. :) Your hair is so anti-frizz! I love it and my hair is like that but I have little spriggs of never ending spiralling frizz here and there. Tehe, you guys are so cute.

Awww thankyooo! ^_^ I'm sure you will be happy! I just know that from the minute I met Matt I knew he was 'the one'. I never even really believed in 'the one' before then... but it just feels so right!

Aww thanks about my hair! When I put my hair up I always have fuzzy bits that stick out at the sides (they're actually very under control in that pic) ...sometimes they look totally mad scientist though. I've given up trying to control them and I swear the hair there doesn't seem to get any longer than it is! lol

hahah yeah it was pretty crazy... although I have to say... Chile in general does not feel scary. It feels like a very safe place. I have no idea why but it just does! :D

Tear gas though... I draw the line there! lol

Through all the tear gas rain, you and matt still shine like the sun. :-) I can tell you 2 are the most in love couple ever! It's really beautiful to see that....

Also, I LOVE how you made all those rooftop pictures like a pandaramic view! :-) AWESOME!
